Is there anything we don't track or measure these days? Yes, there is. We have not yet found a really good way to "measure" or "assess" communication skills, including empathy, creativity or respectful communication behaviour.
I have been teaching for so many years and assessment practices have frustrated me for so long. Before AI, I was correcting hundreds of writing assignments - and it was completely pointless since almost no progress was made by students. At some point, I decided to leave all these practices behind and instead try to dig deeper. I skipped multiple choice vocabulary quizzes and standard writing assignments. Instead, I started doing what I call "parcours", where I mix media as well as communicative-creative tasks as supported by the #2CG method. This semester, among other things, I asked my business management and engineering students to reflect on their learning during a conversation.

Sketching Progress
I further asked students to document their learning progress as a sketch. Results were mixed. Some came up with very creative solutions, others did not quite know what to do. Angelo surprised me with his technical and at the same time creative solution (see below). In very short time, he managed to build a 'smart goals'-based framework where he complemented communicative skills with personal and job-related future to-dos. He even added a time frame. I cannot control how Angelo came up with this model but he definitely prompted well. And that's what matters. The result is useful, applicable and to the point. At the same time it demonstrates the student's fresh, constructive approach, his LLL attitude, his empathy, creativity, critical thinking skills and growth mindset, which he demonstrated throughout the semester, BTW. What is more, I am pretty convinced that he will implement what he sketched.
